Funny dreams
1The other morning, I woke up laughing. Literally. What a fun way to wake up.
Let me explain.
I had a dream.

I had a dream that computers were in our bodies.
Not like a robot, per se. In my dream, we projected the computer screen from our eyes and could project them onto walls, tables, etc. Any surface we were looking at. Then, all we needed to do was touch the surface where we were projecting on to interact (type, scroll, etc.). Pretty cool right??
Here comes the funny part. If you come across an issue where you are projecting on a surface that doesn’t react to your touch, not to worry. We have a back-up plan.
Pull up your shirt and touch your belly. Use that as your surface!!
This was my dream. Pretty cool, huh?? What a great way to wake up!
Countdown Begins
1Ladies and gentlemen, there are now only 95 days until Ron and I get married!
All I can say is HELLO!!
We realized today, we have been procrastinating in some of the few remaining planning details and it is time to light a fire under us!
I logged in to one of my favorite wedding sites today to get some prices on something and first saw the countdown and then, when I went into my personalized checklist they very nicely make you, I have tons of “PAST DUE” activities, and even marked with a red exclamation mark (!). HOLY MOLEY! Way to put a girl into panic mode.

So Ron, better watch out, we are in for some busy days wrapping up the last of the planning. We’ve had it easy for 2 months, but you said you want to be completely involved……
Summertime fun!
1Summer is here and in full bloom!
Kids are out of school, only thing on TV are re-runs, SnowBirds have left to go up North, times are good.
What will you be doing this summer? If you are in my neck of the woods, you will probably have lots of activities outside, right? Hit the beach, go to the park, go to the theme parks, bike riding, canoeing and more.
With that said, here is my PSA for the week. Sun protection is key! Please do yourself and your family a favor and remember to throw on sunscreen and sunblock.
Did you know that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States? One in five Americans will develop skin cancer. It is no laughing matter and it isn’t being taken serious.
Look at Ron and I. He was diagnosed wth Squamous Cell Carcinoma (the second most common) and I was diagnosed with Basal Cell Carcinoma (the most common). Basal cell is rarely fatal, but can be disfiguring, but Squamous cell can be fatal.
They say that about 90% of non-melanoma skin cancers are associated with exposure to UV rays from the sun.
This is why I am urging everyone to cover up and use sun protection. You can be beautiful without the deep dark tahitian tan. Plus with all the new sprays and lotions, they are easier to apply and not such a hassle, especially with kids.

Here is a quick Q&A guide to tell you what SPF to use and how often you shoud re-apply.
Q: What is the minimum SPF recommended for kids? For adults?
A: For children 6 months of age and older, we recommend sunscreens with an SPF 30 or higher.
Babies under 6 months should be kept out of the sun.
Adults of all skin types should use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
Q: What is the difference between UVA rays and UVB rays?
A: UVA rays penetrate deeply into the skin and contribute to premature skin aging and skin cancer. Our exposure to UVA is more constant than to UVB — we encounter UVA rays no matter what the season or time of day.
UVB rays are the main cause of sunburn, but they also contribute significantly to premature skin aging and skin cancer.
High SPF sunscreen products (those with an SPF higher than 30) are designed primarily to absorb UVB plus the shorter UVA rays.
Q: How much should I use and how often should I re-apply?
A: Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours.
Long story short, go out, enjoy the sun. Get your vitamin D. Just be safe when you do. You’ll find me at the beach as much as possible this summer, but you’ll find me under a nice umbrella (that also has SPF protection) or out enjoying the waves with my SPF 45+ on. I won’t let cancer get the best of me!

Bringing home Einstein
0
This past weekend we added a new member to our family. We welcomed Einstein to the mix. He is a 2 1/2 month old rescue. We are told he his a mix between Boxer and Lab. The vet mentioned she saw some Beagle as well, but we’re not sure.
I won’t rehash the whole story of how we came to decide to get a new puppy. Ron already blogged about that story (check it out at http://binarybiker.wordpress.com).
Anyhow, I wanted to share how our first few days have been. In short, TIRING, but fun! It almost brings back memories of when Ashlee was a baby. Forgot all the hard work that comes along with puppies. Apparently, it is not always playtime.
Einstein (who has also been nicknamed “Monkey”), is a very active, but sweet puppy. He is a bit clumsy still. His paws are HUGE, hence he is going to be a big boy. So he trips and slips, but it doesn’t stop him whatsoever. He gets along famously with Cassie, our Beagle. They play very well together. They both iniate the playtimes as well. Either Cassie will bump him with her butt or he will come over and slap her with one his big paws. He is very inquisitive and gets very determined to figure things out.
Einstein also loves to have whatever Cassie has. If she is playing with the ball, he wants the ball. If she is chewing a hoof, he wants that hoof. How do we know this? Well, Einstein crawls up close to her and barks at her. Cassie, being so mild-natured, just gets up and leaves whatever it is and lets him have it. So adorable! We haven’t decided who will become the alpha dog. We’ll see as time goes how that plays out.
We have been actively working on crate training Einstein as well. We’ve been getting him to go in and get treats and toys, trying to show that the crate will be his safe place. He even took a nap in the crate yesterday (after some coaxing, but he did stay for an hour). Bedtime, however, is a different story.
On night number one, given he isn’t ready to spend the entire night in the crate, we tried putting the crate in our room so I knew when he needed to go outside. Yea…that wasn’t a good idea. He wanted nothing to do with sleeping in that crate. This puppy wanted to be held. He can fall asleep on a dime when I hold him. That’s right, I have sucker written all over my forehead. I held him, got him to sleep and then put him in the crate. As soon as I turned around, BAM! Wide awake again. So, I looked lovingly over at Ron, hoping he had some dog training wisdom to share. Silence. We were both tired, so we decided to just let him stay in the bed with us. He slept like a rock until around 4:30am. So I took him out, came back in and tried the crate again. Silly me. 10 minutes later, Ron grumbled something like “just put him in the bed so we can sleep”. Ok, maybe it didn’t come out that grumpy, but it was 4:30 in the morning. As soon as I put him in the bed again, he was out like a light! Yep, we are 2 suckers! We fell for it.
This picture below shows how he can just fall asleep if I hold him. This was us in the car the other day.

So, here we are, coming up on the end of day 4, Einstein has slept with us every night. Tonight, we are going to stand tough and put the crate out in the other room and hope it works. Wish us luck.
Today was also the first day he stayed in the crate all day. It was so hard to leave. Ashlee rushed home after school and confirmed he made it through the day. He did have an accident, but he was VERY happy she was home. Tonight, we are setting up the “puppy cam” so I can check in on him from the office to make sure he is doing ok.
So here’s hoping for a good night’s rest and hoping for less accidents in the house. We always have to have a goal right??
